Do I need both Flow 2 and a Softener?

It depends on your water quality and your goal.
Flow 2 protects against bacteria, microorganisms, and suspended contaminants. The Softener removes hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) that cause limescale.
They solve different problems. In many properties, both are recommended.

Flow 2 is a whole-property ultra-filtration system designed to:

• Remove bacteria and microorganisms

• Reduce turbidity and suspended particles

• Improve taste and odour (via activated carbon)

• Provide microbiological protection at every tap

Flow 2 does not remove hardness or dissolved salts.

The Softener Series removes:

• Calcium

• Magnesium

These minerals are responsible for:

• Limescale build-up

• Reduced appliance efficiency

• White residue on glass and fixtures

• Stiff laundry and soap inefficiency

The softener does not remove bacteria or chemical contaminants.

Flow 2 alone may be sufficient if:

• Your water is not hard

• Your main concern is bacteria or contamination

• You are using treated municipal supply, deepwell water

• You do not experience scaling issues

A Softener alone may be sufficient if:

• Your water is microbiologically safe can be changed during the seasons

• Your main issue is limescale build-up

• Appliances are scaling rapidly

• Showers and taps show mineral residue

In many tropical and well-water environments, both issues exist:

• Microbial contamination

• Hardness and scaling

Installing both provides:

Flow 2 is typically installed first, followed by the Softener (final configuration depends on plumbing layout).
