What the Water Softener Series Does NOT Do

Edited

Short Overview

The Water Softener Series is designed specifically to reduce hardness caused by dissolved calcium and magnesium.
It does not filter particulate contaminants, does not provide microbial purification, and does not replace a dedicated filtration or UV disinfection system.

It Is Not a Filtration System

The softener does not:

  • Remove sediment or suspended solids

  • Reduce chlorine

  • Provide ultra-filtration

  • Provide UV sterilisation

  • Remove bacteria or viruses

  • Remove microplastics

Hardness reduction and purification are separate treatment processes.

For microbial or particulate protection, a dedicated filtration system such as Flow 2 is required.

It Does Not Reduce Dissolved Salts (TDS)

Ion exchange softening replaces calcium and magnesium with sodium.

The system:

  • Does not reduce total dissolved solids (TDS)

  • Does not desalinate water

  • Does not reduce conductivity

In some cases, measured TDS may remain similar or increase slightly due to sodium exchange.

It Does Not Treat Chemical or Industrial Contamination

The softener is not designed to treat:

  • Heavy industrial pollutants

  • Pesticides or solvents

  • Industrial wastewater

  • Seawater or brackish water

  • Highly contaminated raw sources

It is intended for fresh water supplies within specified pressure and temperature limits.

It Does Not Replace Correct System Engineering

The softener requires:

  • Proper drainage connection for regeneration discharge

  • Correct bypass and isolation valve configuration

  • Adequate inlet pressure

  • Electrical supply within specification

Improper installation can reduce performance and affect regeneration efficiency.

It Is Not a Universal Water Quality Solution

Hardness reduction improves scale control and protects plumbing infrastructure.

However, it does not:

  • Make water “purified”

  • Eliminate microbial risk

  • Replace filtration where required

For full-property treatment, softening may be combined with filtration and disinfection systems such as Flow 2 depending on water chemistry.

It Is Not Internally User-Serviceable

Users should not:

  • Open the control head

  • Access resin media

  • Modify internal valve programming beyond user-level settings

  • Replace internal electrical components

Servicing and advanced configuration must be handled by qualified professionals.

Important Clarification

Softening improves hydraulic and appliance protection but does not alter overall contaminant classification.

System pairing should be determined based on:

  • Hardness level

  • Water source type

  • Microbial risk

  • Hydraulic demand
